Washington Reeks of Insincerity When Talking about the Cost of Health System Reform

The Medicine Man these days does a lot of raising his eyebrows and smirking at the endless number of politicians and interest groups avoiding an honest discussion of cost.

How do we pay for all these grandiose ideas embedded in so-called health system reform?

Believe me; the politicians continue to dodge their responsibility to specify the details of their proposals.

I had a great big chuckle Friday when the House unveiled its plan without the cost and the details of how they would pay for it under those pay-as-you- go rules. At least the Senate Finance Committee admitted their inability to reach a conclusion on these matters and postponed reporting a bill out.

Having been involved in these political charades over the years, it now appears to me that this latest effort is in big trouble. News reports that businesses will be taxed for health care benefits offered employees while labor unions will be exempt don’t pass the laugh test. All of America gets it. What is good for the goose is good for the gander.

Come on gang, be fair and give us the details. The devil is in the details!
