The Medicine Man was shocked to learn recently about the shortage of technicians to run critical lab tests for hospitals, physicians and patients. The recent swine-flu outbreak drew attention to this matter very recently and it is a matter of great concern. The shortage means there is a potential threat to the safety and quality of health care.
There now are only about 300,000 technicians nationwide who test for deadly viruses and infections. Among the other vital tests they perform help diagnose heart attacks and identify cancerous tumors.
The job vacancy rate for certified lab professionals tops 50 percent in some states!
The Medicine Man intends to probe into this problem. Stay tuned.
